An Enchanting Prelude: 8 Years in the Making The love story of Quang Dat and Bich Diep began unpredictably within the quiet walls of an English class. Diep’s distinctive charm—as an elite student from a specialized high school—instantly captivated Dat. Driven by a lighthearted determination to win her heart, Dat leveraged his past experience as a street magician during his years studying abroad, using sleight-of-hand card tricks to confess his feelings. While Diep initially viewed it as a fleeting romance, destiny had a grander design, guiding them hand-in-hand through an extraordinary eight-year journey.
Their love, as vibrant and miraculous as the magic tricks that sparked it, reached its breathtaking culmination in an intimate, high-end luxury wedding in Ho Chi Minh City on October 1st.
The Concept: Where Ghibli Nostalgia Meets Wonderland
After listening to Dat and Diep share their eight-year odyssey, the creative team at Je t’aime Art instantly drew a poetic parallel to Howl and Sophie from Studio Ghibli’s masterpiece, Howl’s Moving Castle. Dat mirrored the charismatic wizard Howl, unaware that the “magic” he conjured through his illusions would ultimately lead him to his lifelong sanctuary. Diep embodied a real-world Sophie—pure, gentle, and steadfast—whose life was forever altered when Dat’s mystical cards and passionate heart swept them into a world painted in vivid colors.
Drawing further aesthetic inspiration from the rich, surreal palette of Alice in Wonderland, Je t’aime Art meticulously developed the “Our Magical World” wedding concept over a ten-day design period. Our objective was to transform ephemeral memories into tangible, artistic installations within the ballroom, translating the couple’s unique narrative into an immersive sensory experience. The mystique of their love was felt from the moment of arrival, where oversized playing cards appeared to float amidst winding, organic floral installations, beckoning guests into a kaleidoscopic wonderland.
Artisanal Scenography & Materiality
As a premier experiential event design agency, Je t’aime Art conceptualized the entire ballroom as a living stage for an grand illusion.
A crowning jewel of this design—and a detail our team is immensely proud of—was the customization of the playing cards. Each card was meticulously re-illustrated by a master artist to chronicle the couple’s milestone memories: the vibrant red maple leaf symbolizing Canada, where Dat spent his years studying abroad; Kindred, their favorite shared gaming character; and the beloved cats they have raised together. These deeply personal elements were brought to life through sophisticated, colorful fine-art illustrations.
The Grand Ballroom Scenography:
The Palette: A breathtaking gradient capturing the sky’s most dramatic hours—vibrant tones of tangerine orange, radiant gold, blushing pink, deep violet, and ethereal cerulean blue.
The Grand Aisle: Crafted from mirrored and highly reflective materials to establish a dreamlike, optical illusion. This was flanked by lush clusters of premium fresh blooms interspersed with oversized, handcrafted giant artisanal paper flowers, maintaining perfect tonal harmony.
The Multidimensional Stage: The perimeter of the stage featured varying heights of botanical arrangements, engineered precisely to enrich the visual depth of the ballroom without obstructing the sightlines of the guests.
The main stage structure was envisioned as a Memory Box framed by floating playing cards. Our core concept was to depict the cards as a fertile ground from which magnificent, hand-drawn flora erupted—signifying the couple’s private dreams gradually materializing into reality. At the absolute center of the stage stood a monumental Buckwheat flower installation—a universal symbol of lovers’ devotion—marking the definitive moment where their shared magic transformed into an everlasting truth.
The Highlight: An Immersive Shadow Dance
Departing from standard wedding timelines, “Our Magic World” featured a highly customized, four-act Shadow Dance. Choreographed, scripted, and scored entirely by Je t’aime Art, the performance was executed flawlessly on stage by the bride and groom themselves. Our vision was to elevate the evening into a multi-sensory, high-concept theatrical experience that allowed the couple to express their profound emotional evolution.
True love often inspires us to dream of a beautiful, shared finale. The four acts performed by Dat and Diep guided their audience through every nuanced emotion of their eight-year history. Through every peak and valley, they continuously chose to stay, becoming each other’s guiding light.
The story of Quang Dat and Bich Diep stands as a testament that love can blossom from the most unexpected encounters, and when two hearts beat in perfect sync, they possess the power to create a magic entirely their own.
